C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418- 0500 Fax- On- Demand 202 / 418- 2830 TTY 202 / 418- 2555 Internet: http:// www. fcc. gov ftp. fcc. gov DA 00- 2853 Released: December 22, 2000 AUXILIARY BROADCAST FREQUENCY COORDINATOR DESIGNATED FOR THE 2001 PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURAL IN WASHINGTON, DC The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has designated the Washington Executive Broadcast Engineers Frequency Coordinators, Inc. (WFC) as the single point of contact for coordinating operations under Section 74.24 of the Rules, 47 C. F. R. §74.24, from January 8, 2001 through January 23, 2001 for the 2001 Presidential Inaugural to be held in Washington, DC. 1 This designation will allow for advance coordination of auxiliary broadcast frequency usage in the designated area. To minimize harmful interference, all Parts 74, 78 and 101 licensees sharing spectrum available under Part 74 of the Commission’s Rules and operating in the designated area are covered by this action. The designated area is defined as a circle around Washington, DC with a 100- kilometer radius for terrestrial stations and a 150- kilometer radius for any mobile operations onboard aircraft. 2 The FCC took similar action when it designated auxiliary broadcast frequency coordinators for the 1996 National Political Conventions, the 1996 Summer Olympic Games, the 1984 Summer Olympic Games, and the previous visit of Pope John Paul II to the United States. These actions were taken as a result of our concern that uncoordinated use of auxiliary broadcast stations on a special temporary authority basis might result in spectrum congestion and excessive interference causing less complete broadcast coverage. We believe that the potential for a similar situation exists during the 2001 Presidential Inaugural to be held in Washington, DC. As a result, the WFC has been designated as the auxiliary broadcast frequency coordinator for the duration of the 2001 Presidential Inaugural. All short- term auxiliary broadcast use under Part 74, without exception, shall be coordinated in advance through the WFC Coordinator. The WFC coordinator contact is Bob Denny, Telephone: 202- 452- 9323, Fax: 202- 452- 5610, E- mail: 1 We note that Section 74. 24 allows eligible broadcasters to operate auxiliary broadcast stations on a short- term basis, not to exceed 720 hours annually, without prior Commission authorization. 2 The center of Washington D. C. for the purposes of determining the coordination area is defined by the coordinates 38- 53- 51.4NLAT, 77- 00- 31.9WLONG referenced to NAD83. 1 2 webe@ denny. com. The local frequency coordinator will provide assistance and database access to all local and non- local Part 74 licensees, as well as all Parts 78 and 101 licensees sharing spectrum available under Part 74, for temporary fixed, mobile and portable installations.
