Kennard has announced that he is seeking nominations to fill a vacancy for an elected member of a state legislature on the Commission's Local and State Government Advisory Committee (LSGAC). The Local and State Government Advisory Committee facilitates intergovernmental communications between local, county and state governments and the Commission. It provides advice and information to the Commission on key issues that concern local and state governments, including public rights-of-way, deployment of advanced services, facilities siting, universal service, removal of barriers to competitive entry and public safety communications. In addition, the LSGAC communicates to the Commission information about state, county and local government policy concerns regarding proposed Commission actions pursuant to the Telecommunications Act of 1996. The Committee is comprised of elected officials of local, county and state governments or their representatives. Pursuant to Sections 204(b) of the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act of 1995, Pub. L. No. 104-4,109 Stat. 66, the Committee is not subject to, and is not required to follow, the procedures set forth in the Federal Advisory Committee Act 5 U.S.C., App. 2 (1988). Chairman Kennard will be accepting nominations for an elected member of a state legislature to serve on LSGAC until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 3,2000. Entities may apply for, or nominate another entity for, membership on the committee. Each application or nomination must include: (a) the name and title of the applicant or nominee and a description of the interest the applicant or nominee will represent; (b) the applicant's or nominee's mail address, e-mail address (where available), telephone number and facsimile number.
