C. 20554 Dear Ms Attwood: I have appreciated the opportunity to serve the FCC as Chair of the North American Numbering Council (NANC) since September 1, 1999. I hope that during my tenure the NANC has made recommendations, reached through a consensus of its members, to the FCC that fostered efficient and impartial number administration. However, due to other demands on my time, I must resign effective this month. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to ensure a smooth transition for my successor. Thank you very much. Sincerely, John R. Hoffman cc: Cheryl Callahan, DFO 2 Federal Communications Commission Washington, D. C. 20554 April 30, 2001 John R. Hoffman 6607 Willow Lane Mission Hills, Kansas 66208- 1974 Re: North American Numbering Council (NANC) Dear John: I was sorry to receive your April 17, 2001 letter submitting your resignation as the Chairman of the North American Numbering Council effective April 30, 2001. The NANC and the Common Carrier Bureau have benefited enormously from your leadership on the Council since your appointment in September 1999. Your dedicated service to the Council has contributed greatly to the Council’s success in carrying out its responsibility of providing the Commission with sound advice and recommendations reached through consensus to foster efficient and impartial administration of our finite numbering resources in a rapidly evolving competitive telecommunications market. You brought your unique leadership skills and perspective on contemporary telecommunications issues to NANC, and you will be missed by the Bureau as well as the NANC members. It is, therefore, with regret and reluctance that we accept your resignation. John, we are very thankful to you for your service to the Commission, the telecommunications industry and the public at large. You have served the United States very well, and we are grateful to you. On behalf of the Common Carrier Bureau, I thank you for a job well done, and wish you the best in your retirement years. Sincerely, Yog R. Varma Deputy Chief Common Carrier Bureau 3
