On January 30, 2001, the International Bureau and the Enforcement Bureau issued a public notice 1 to announce a program to increase compliance with the licensing requirements of Section 214 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, (the "Communications Act") and Sections 34- 39 of the Submarine Cable Landing License Act (the "Submarine Cable Act"). In that public notice, the International Bureau announced the commencement of a 90- day period during which carriers are encouraged to apply for necessary authorizations pursuant to Section 214 of the Communications Act and Sections 34- 39 of the Submarine Cable Act. At the end of the 90- day period, the International Bureau will refer cases of noncompliance to the Enforcement Bureau for appropriate enforcement action. 2. The International Bureau stated that the 90- day period would commence on the date of publication of the public notice in the Federal Register. On February 5, 2001, the public notice was published in the Federal Register. 2 Due to a typographical error, the Federal Register stated that the 90-day period would commence on May 7, 2001. This information is not correct. The 90- day period commenced on February 5, 2001, the day the public notice was published in the Federal Register. The 90- day period will terminate on May 7, 2001. On February 12, 2001, the Federal Register issued a correction that states that the 90- day period commenced on February 5, 2001. 3 3.
