 WIRELESS  TELECOMMUNICATIONS  BUREAU  ANNOUNCES  THAT  FORESTRY  CONSERVATION  COMMUNICATIONS  ASSOCIATION,  INC.  IS  CERTIFIED  AS  A 
 FREQUENCY  COORDINATOR  FOR  800  MHz  PUBLIC  SAFETY  FREQUENCIES 


 On  July  25,  2001,  the  Public  Safety  and  Private  Wireless  Division,  Wireless  Telecommunications 
 Bureau  (Bureau),  released  an  Order  finding  it  in  the  public  interest  to  expand  competition  among 
 frequency  coordinators  in  the  800  MHz  public  safety  frequencies.  1  Additionally,  the  Division  concluded 
 that  American  Association  of  State  Highway  and  Transportation  Officials  (AASHTO)  and  International 
 Association  of  Fire  Chiefs,  Inc.,  and  International  Municipal  Signal  Association  (IAFC/  IMSA)  -  -  each  of 
 which  was  already  certified  as  a  frequency  advisory  committee  (FAC)  for  the  Public  Safety  Pool  of 
 Private  Land  Mobile  Radio  (PLMR)  frequencies  below  512  MHz,  and  for  the  Public  Safety  700  MHz 
 band  General  Use  channels,  and  each  of  which  had  requested  certification  for  800  MHz  public  safety 
 bands  -  -  were  qualified  to  be  FACs  for  800  MHz  Public  Safety  frequencies  and  the  800  MHz  General 
 Category  frequencies.  2  Consequently,  AASHTO  and  IAFC/  IMSA  were  certified  to  coordinate  those 
 PLMR  frequencies.  The  Association  of  Public-  Safety  Communications  Officials-  International,  Inc.  was 
 already  certified  to  coordinate  800  MHz  Public  Safety  frequencies.  3 


 Forestry  Conservation  Communications  Association,  Inc.  (FCCA),  the  only  other  FAC  currently 
 certified  to  coordinate  Public  Safety  frequencies  below  512  MHz  and  in  the  700  MHz  band,  was  invited 
 to  perform  the  same  function  for  frequencies  in  the  800  MHz  Public  Safety  band.  4  FCCA  was  provided 
 with  forty-  five  days  from  the  date  the  Order  was  released  (July  25,  2001)  to  notify  the  Bureau  of  its 
 intention  to  coordinate  these  frequencies.  5  By  correspondence  dated  August  29,  2001,  FCCA  provided
