On January 9, 2002, the Public Notice entitled, “Request For Exemption From Commission’s Closed Captioning Rules,” DA 02- 29, was released. Pursuant to Section 79. 1 of the Commission’s rules, USA Broadcasting, Inc. (“ USAB”) sought an exemption from the closed captioning requirements for USAB’s 13 full- power television stations. Univision recently acquired USAB and asserts that these full- power television stations are now part of a new Spanish- language network subject to different closed captioning requirements. Accordingly, Univision requests termination of the request for exemption filed by USAB. 2. Accordingly, IT IS ORDERED that Univision’s request to withdraw the petition for exemption filed by USA Broadcasting, Inc. IS GRANTED. 3.
