(CoreComm or Applicant) located at 50 Monument Road, Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania 19904 filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission), requesting authority under section 214( a) of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, 1 to discontinue the provision of domestic telecommunications services in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The application indicates that CoreComm plans to discontinue providing local and long distance telecommunications services and toll free services to business and residential customers in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on December 5, 2002 (or such other times as may be proscribed by the Commission or other regulatory authorities). CoreComm sent affected customers notification of the expected discontinuance by a letter dated November 1, 2002 in compliance with the requirements set forth in section 63.71( a) of the Commission’s rules. 2 In accordance with 47 C. R. § 63.71( c), the application will be deemed to be automatically granted on the thirty- first (31 st ) day after the release date of this notice, unless the Commission has notified Applicant that the grant will not be automatically effective. The Commission will normally authorize proposed discontinuances of service unless it is shown that customers or other end users would be unable to receive service or a reasonable substitute from another carrier, or that the public convenience and necessity would be otherwise adversely affected. 1 47 U.
