C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418- 0500 Internet: http:// www. fcc. gov TTY: 1- 888- 835- 5322 DA 02- 3238 Released: November 22, 2002 NETWORK RELIABILITY AND INTEROPERABILITY COUNCIL TO HOLD MEETING A meeting of the Network Reliability and Interoperability Council (" Council") will be held Friday, December 6, 2002, at 10: 00 a. m. at the Federal Communications Commission, Room TW- C305, 445 12th Street, S. W., Washington, D. C. 20554. The Council was established by the Federal Communications Commission to bring together leaders of the telecommunications industry and telecommunications experts from academic, consumer and other organizations to explore and recommend measures that will enhance network reliability and security. At the December 6 meeting, the council will consider proposals from the Physical Security, the Cyber Security and the Reliability Focus Groups. The Physical Security and Cyber Security Focus Groups will present recommended best practices to better fortify the physical and cyber assets of the telecommunications infrastructure against terrorist activities or natural disasters. The Reliability Focus Group will present recommended requirements for network reliability measurements for wireline, wireless, internet and cable public communications networks. Members of the general public may attend the meeting. The Federal Communications Commission will attempt to accommodate as many people as possible. Admittance, however, will be limited to the seating available. The public may submit written comments before the meeting to Jeffery Goldthorp, the Commission's Designated Federal Officer for the Network Reliability and Interoperability Council.
