The EIE program was created at the FCC in 2001 to ensure the engineering preeminence of the agency. The EIE program provides continuing and advanced education to FCC engineering professionals on matters related to radio technology, network technology and spectrum management. To date, the program has included tutorials, seminars and conferences, as well as academic courses, on topics involving communications technologies related to the Commission’s jurisdiction under the Communications Act of 1934, as amended. These efforts have included specifically designed and targeted classes on site at FCC headquarters, as well as regular enrollment and classroom attendance of FCC personnel at various educational institutions. Instruction has been provided by Commission staff, governmental agencies, professional and trade groups, industry leaders, and individual academicians affiliated with institutions such as Carnegie Mellon and the University of Colorado, as well as graduate level and other coursework at academic institutions, including Drexel University, George Mason University, George Washington University, Penn State, University of Maryland, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, and Virginia Tech. The Commission is requesting recommendations from colleges and universities on ways to enhance its ongoing EIE program and the manner in which EIE educational goals can be effectively and efficiently met. The Commission seeks recommendations on specific technology issues, particularly new technologies, that are essential or pertinent to the Commission’s work. Submissions may also include, but are not limited to, potential courses that could be given under contract to engineering professionals at or near the FCC’s headquarters location in Washington, D. C., and regular curriculum offerings. This notice welcomes input and information from interested institutions and does not constitute a formal solicitation. As such, the agency will not reimburse institutions for any bid and proposal costs associated with preparation of material submitted.
