C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418- 0500 Internet: http:// www. fcc. gov TTY: 1- 888- 835- 5322 DA 03- 213 January 28, 2003 Verizon’s Request for Permission to Withdraw Petition for Partial Reconsideration Is Granted Transmittal Nos. 425, 467 On April 22, 2002, Verizon Communications Corporation filed a Request for Permission to Withdraw its April 5, 1991 Petition for Partial Reconsideration. 1 The Petition sought reconsideration of the Common Carrier Bureau’s order of March 5, 1991 that established a “blanket” waiver for all carriers that provide or wish to provide the operator services of Line Status Verification, Call Interruption, and Operator Transfer Service. The waiver required the creation of separate operator services access elements, and required that the costs associated with those services be allocated to the same elements. Verizon states that the issues it raised in its petition are moot, as the Commission’s price cap rules no longer require waivers for the establishment of new switched access rate elements. 2 The Pricing Policy Division of the Wireline Competition Bureau has reviewed and hereby approves Verizon’s request to withdraw its petition. Action by the Chief, Pricing Policy Division, Wireline Competition Bureau. For further information, contact Lenworth Smith, Pricing Policy Division, Wireline Competition Bureau, at (202) 418- 1530. 1 The Petition was filed by Bell Atlantic, which merged to form Verizon. The Verizon telephone companies are the affiliated local telephone companies of Verizon Communications Corporation. 2 See Access Charge Reform, CC Docket No. 96- 262, Fifth Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, 14 FCC Rcd 14221 (1999). 1 2
