C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418- 0500 Internet: http:// www. fcc. gov TTY: 1- 888- 835- 5322 DA 03- 2749 Released: August 27, 2003 FCC REQUESTS NOMINATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP ON INTERGOVERNMENTAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE, FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE In this Public Notice, the Federal Communications Commission (“ Commission”) seeks nominations for membership on its Intergovernmental Advisory Committee (“ IAC” or “Committee”), a committee composed of local, state, and tribal officials and eligible for the intergovernmental exemption from the Federal Advisory Committee Act (“ FACA”), 5 U. S. C. App. 2 (1988). Applications should be submitted in accordance with the procedures outlined below. IAC MISSION The IAC, formerly known as the Local and State Government Advisory Committee (“ LSGAC”), was created in 1997 to provide guidance to the Commission on issues of importance to state, local and tribal governments, as well as to the Commission. 1 The Committee is composed of 15 elected and appointed officials of municipal, county, state, and tribal governments. The Committee provides ongoing advice and information to the Commission on a broad range of telecommunications issues of interest to state, local and tribal governments, including cable and local franchising, public rights- of- way, facilities siting, universal service, broadband access, barriers to competitive entry, and public safety communications, for which the Commission explicitly or inherently shares responsibility or administration with local, county, state, or tribal governments. However, a nomination should include the nominee’s name, title, and government organization, as well as the nominee’s address, e- mail address, and telephone number. Nominations should include a statement of the interests represented and any specific expertise or issues of interest to the nominee, and a detailed description of the applicant's qualifications to serve on the Committee. The nomination should also include a statement from the nominee indicating a willingness to serve on the Committee for a two year period of time and a commitment to attend four (4) one- day meetings per year in Washington, D. C. at the nominee’s own expense. From the nominations submitted, the Chairman of the Commission will appoint 15 members to serve on the IAC for a period of two years, and will select a Chairman and a Vice Chairman to lead the Committee. The Commission will then publish a notice in the Federal Register announcing the appointment of IAC members and the first meeting date. It is anticipated that the first IAC meeting will take place before the end of the year.
