C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418- 0500 Internet: http:// www. fcc. gov TTY: 1- 888- 835- 5322 DA 03- 2844 September 8, 2003 OMB GRANTS EMERGENCY APPROVAL OF NEW RULES ADOPTED IN TRIENNIAL REVIEW ORDER; EFFECTIVE DATE IS OCTOBER 2, 2003 CC DOCKET NO. 01- 338 Effective Date: October 2, 2003 On August 21, 2003, the Commission released a Report and Order on Remand and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in CC Docket No. 01- 338 (Triennial Review Order and FNPRM), in which the Commission adopted new network unbundling requirements pursuant to section 251 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended. In addition, in the order, the Commission initiated an inquiry regarding proposed modifications to the Commission’s existing rules implementing section 252( i), which requires local exchange carriers to make available to other telecommunications carriers interconnection agreements approved under section 252. 1 A summary of the Commission’s Triennial Review Order and FNPRM was published in the Federal Register on September 2, 2003, establishing the effective date for the rules as 30 days after publication in the Federal Register, which is October 2, 2003. 2 As discussed in the Triennial Review Order and FNPRM, the effective date was contingent upon Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approval, which was granted on Friday, September 5, 2003. 3 For further information regarding this proceeding contact Jeremy Miller, Competition Policy Division, Wireline Competition Bureau, (202) 418- 1580. 1 Comment and Reply Comment Dates Established for Triennial Review Order, Public Notice, rel.
