C. 20554 DA 04- 3207 Released: October 13, 2004 WIRELINE COMPETITION BUREAU INVITES INTERESTED PARTIES TO PARTICIPATE IN A SYMPOSIUM TO DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF NUMBERING: WILL NEW TECHNOLOGIES, INNOVATIONS AND SERVICES AFFECT NUMBERING ADMINISTRATION AND OPTIMIZATION? CC Docket No. 99- 200 Beginning in 2000, the Federal Communications Commission (Commission) implemented policies that changed the landscape of numbering use and assignment to reflect, in part, the needs of competitive local markets. Working collaboratively with industry groups, state commissions, and the North American Numbering Council (NANC), the Commission’s advisory committee on numbering issues, the Commission has made significant changes in the manner in which numbering resources are assigned and used. By working with state commissions and the telecommunications industry, the Commission has been able to refine its numbering administration policies and processes, resulting in a substantial increase in the estimated life of the North American Numbering Plan. Since adoption of various numbering resource optimization measures, new services and technologies have developed that use numbering resources. In light of these developments, the Wireline Competition Bureau (Bureau) will hold a symposium on “The Future of Numbering,” on Thursday, November 4, 2004, from 1: 00 p. m. until 5: 00 p. m. The symposium will explore the impact of new technologies, innovations and services on the Commission’s numbering resource optimization goals. This symposium will also enable the Bureau to receive input from interested parties and industry experts on the numbering resource optimization issues facing providers of new and emerging technologies and services. It will be held at the Federal Communications Commission, Portals II, 445 Twelfth Street, SW, Room TW- C305, Washington, DC 20554. The Bureau invites parties interested in participating in the symposium to contact Sanford Williams, Sheryl Todd, or Antoinette Stevens at the phone numbers or email News media information 202 / 418- 0500 Fax- On- Demand 202 / 418- 2830 TTY 202 / 418- 2555 Internet: http:// www. fcc. gov ftp. fcc. gov 1 2 addresses below.
