C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418- 0500 Internet: http:// www. fcc. gov TTY: 1- 888- 835- 5322 DA 04- 3825 Released: December 6, 2004 REMINDER OF CABLE TELEVISION SYSTEM PUBLIC INSPECTION FILE OBLIGATIONS Cable television system operators are reminded that, pursuant to Section 76.1700 of the Commission’s rules, cable television systems are generally required to have a public inspection file containing certain information relating to its operations and compliance with the Commission rules. The public inspection file is intended to provide a source of information to subscribers and other interested parties about their local cable system and its compliance with the rules. Each system’s public inspection file must be made available promptly upon request. If a cable operator has multiple offices at which business with the public is conducted within the geographic confines of a single cable system personnel at these offices should be able to timely inform any party as to the location of the office where the relevant public file may be inspected. The Enforcement Bureau recently settled, by Consent Decree with Comcast Corporation, a investigation of possible violations of these requirements. See Order, DA 04- 3274, (Enf. Bur., October 22, 2004). Particularly in light of issues presented in that proceeding operators are reminded that failure to maintain a public inspection file and make it available in accordance with the rules may subject such operators to significant financial penalties or other enforcement actions.
