INTRODUCTION 1. CompTel/ ASCENT (“ CompTel/ ASCENT”) Alliance filed a Motion for Extension of Time requesting that the Commission extend the period for all interested parties to file comments and reply comments in the above- captioned proceeding from December 29, 2004 and January 10, 2005, respectively, to January 20, 2005 and February 9, 2005 respectively. 1 CompTel/ ASCENT states that this extension would permit more substantive and complete responses to the legal and factual issues raised in this proceeding and would not prejudice any interest parties. We agree that providing additional time to file comments and reply comments will allow a more substantive and complete record in this proceeding. We note, however, that it is the policy of the Commission that extensions of time shall not be routinely granted. 2 In light of that policy, we do not agree that the extension of time sought by CompTel/ ASCENT is reasonable given the limited scope of the proceeding and the bases for the extension request. Therefore, we will extend the deadline for filing comments in this proceeding until January 7, 2005, and for filing reply comments until January 18, 2005. 2. ACCORDINGLY, IT IS ORDERED that, pursuant to sections 4( i), 4( j), and 5( c) of the Communications Act, 47 U. S. C. §§ 154( i), 154( j), 155( c), and sections 0.91, 0.291, and 1.46 of the Commission's rules, 47 C. F. R. §§ 0. 91, 0.291, 1.46, the pleading cycle established in this matter shall be modified as follows: Comments Due: January 7, 2005 Reply Comments Due: January 18, 2005 1 See Pleading Cycle Established for Petitions of Global Crossing Telecommunications, Inc. and SBC Communications, Inc. for Declaratory Ruling, WC Docket No. 04- 424, Public Notice, DA 04- 3865 (released Dec. 8, 2004). 2 47 C.
