On July 21, 2005, the Commission released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking 1 in the above- captioned proceeding. The current deadline for filing reply comments is November 25, 2005. 2. On November 15, 2005, the Commission received a Request for Extension of Time in this proceeding filed by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). 2 NAB requests that the Commission extend the deadline for filing reply comments until December 16, 2005. NAB contends that the NPRM produced a significant record from hundreds of commenters, and that reviewing all of the filings for purposes of preparing a meaningful response is extremely time- consuming. 3 NAB notes that it is in the process of collecting and analyzing the information provided in the comments, and that the substantive reply comments will require a reasonable amount of additional time. 4 Lastly, NAB notes that the reply comments are currently due the day after the Thanksgiving holiday. 5 NAB asserts that a brief extension of the Reply Comment deadline will enable the Commission to gather and consider a more complete factual record of the relevant legal issues, and as such, will serve the public interest. 6 3. The Commission does not routinely grant extensions of time. 7 Upon review, however, we agree that an extension will afford parties the necessary time to coordinate and file reply comments 1 Closed Captioning of Video Programming, Telecommunications for the Deaf, Inc.
