C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418- 0500 Internet: http:// www. fcc. gov TTY: 1- 888- 835- 5322 DA 05- 3147 December 6, 2005 WIRELINE COMPETITION BUREAU GRANTS MOTION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME TO FILE REPLY COMMENTS IN THE COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANCE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT ACT AND BROADBAND ACCESS AND SERVICES PROCEEDING ET DOCKET NO. 04- 295 On December 5, 2005, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a motion, pursuant to section 1.46( b) of the Commission’s rules, 1 to extend the deadline for filing reply comments in response to the Commission’s Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act and Broadband Access and Services proceeding. 2 DOJ asks the Commission to extend the current December 12, 2005 deadline until December 21, 2005. Motions for extensions of time are not routinely granted. 3 Nevertheless, we do occasionally grant limited extensions of time when we find that the public interest would be served by doing so. In this case, we believe that granting DOJ’s motion is in the public interest because all interested parties will benefit equally from an extension of the reply comment deadline, and because extending the deadline will allow the Commission to obtain a more complete and well- developed record. Parties therefore have until December 21, 2005 to file reply comments in this proceeding. For further information, contact Carol Simpson, Wireline Competition Bureau, (202) 418- 2391. 1 47 C. F.
