 PROPOSED  RULEMAKING  TO  ENHANCE  SECURITY  AND  AUTHENTICATION  STANDARDS  FOR  ACCESS  TO  CPNI

 On  May  10,  2006,  the  National  Association  of  State  Utility  Consumer  Advocates,  the  Pennsylvania  Public  Utilities  Commission  and  the  Texas  Office  of  Public  Utility  Counsel  filed  a  request 
 for  a  two-  week  extension  of  time  to  file  reply  comments  in  response  to  the  Commission’s  Notice  of  Proposed  Rulemaking  (NPRM)  to  enhance  security  and  authentication  standards  for  access  to  customer 
 proprietary  network  information  (CPNI).  1  The  current  deadline  for  filing  reply  comments  is  May  19,  2006.  2 


 Although  requests  for  extension  of  time  are  not  routinely  granted,  3  we  do  occasionally  grant  limited  extensions  of  time  when  we  find  that  the  public  interest  would  be  served  by  doing  so.  In  this  case, 
 we  believe  that  granting  an  extension  of  time  to  file  reply  comments  in  this  proceeding  is  in  the  public  interest  because  of  the  large  volume  of  comments  filed  in  this  proceeding.  Granting  a  two-  week 
 extension  will  facilitate  the  full  participation  of  all  parties,  thus  generating  a  more  informed  record.  Parties  therefore  have  until  June  2,  2006  to  file  reply  comments  on  the  NPRM  and  comments  in  this 
 docket.
