C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418- 0500 Internet: http:// www. fcc. gov TTY: 1- 888- 835- 5322 DA 06- 639 March 21, 2006 WIRELINE COMPETITION BUREAU GRANTS REQUEST FOR EXTENSION OF TIME TO FILE COMMENTS ON TIME WARNER CABLE’S PETITION FOR DECLARATORY RULING THAT COMPETITIVE LOCAL EXCHANGE CARRIERS MAY OBTAIN INTERCONNECTION TO PROVIDE WHOLESALE TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES TO VOIP PROVIDERS WC Docket No. 06- 55 On March 15, 2006, COMPTEL filed a request for a two week extension of time to file comments on the petition of Time Warner Cable (TWC) for declaratory ruling that competitive local exchange carriers may obtain interconnection to provide wholesale telecommunications service to VoIP providers. 1 On March 16, 2006, the Nebraska Public Service Commission (Nebraska PSC), the South Carolina Coalition (SCC), and John Staurulakis, Inc. (JSI) also filed separate requests for an extension of time to file comments in this proceeding. The current deadline for filing comments is March 27, 2006. 2 Although requests for extensions of time are not routinely granted, 3 we do occasionally grant limited extensions of time when we find that the public interest would be served by doing so. In this case, we believe that granting an extension of time to file comments and reply comments in this proceeding is in the public interest. COMPTEL, the Nebraska PSC, SCC and JSI all ask generally for additional time so that they may incorporate into their comments a thorough analysis of the complicated issues at hand. In addition, COMPTEL states that TWC does not object to a two week extension of the comment and reply comment periods. We believe that other parties will benefit equally from an extension of these deadlines, and that such an extension will enable the Commission to obtain a more complete and well-developed record in this proceeding. Parties therefore have until April 10, 2006 to file comments on TWC’s petition in this docket, and until April 25, 2006 to file reply comments.
