Washington, D.C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov TTY: 1-888-835-5322 News Media Contact: DA 07-4179 Clyde Ensslin (202) 418-0506 Released: October 5, 2007 THE OFFICE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL TESTING OF TV WHITE SPACE DEVICES ET Docket No. 04-186 On October 12, 2006, the Commission adopted a First Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rule Making (First R&O and Further NPRM) in ET Docket Nos. 04-186 and 02-380, 21 FCC Rcd 12266 (2006), on authorizing the operation of new low power devices in the TV broadcast spectrum at locations where individual channels/frequencies are not being used for authorized services (TV White Spaces). In that action, the Commission stated that its Laboratory would conduct a testing program, including field testing, to assess the potential for interference from low power devices operating in the TV bands. The Commission is committed to working with all parties to continue the process of investigating the potential performance capabilities of TV white space devices in an open and transparent manner. To that end, the Laboratory will be conducting additional laboratory and field testing of prototype devices. Further details about the testing will be released at a later date and made available on the Commission’s Internet site (www.fcc.gov).
