Washington, D.C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov TTY: 1-888-835-5322 DA 08-104 Released: January 16, 2008 PUBLIC SAFETY AND HOMELAND SECURITY BUREAU INVITES COMMENTS ON PUBLIC SAFETY REGION 5 (SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA) 800 MHz NPSPAC REGIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE PLAN AMENDMENT General Docket 89-97 Comments Date: February 15, 2008 Reply Date: March 3, 2008 On March 6, 2007, Region 5 (Southern California) 800 MHz Regional Public Safety Planning Committee submitted a proposed amendment to its Public Safety Plan for review and approval which would allocate NPSPAC channels 616, 654, 700 and 768 to the County of Los Angeles.1 The proposed amendment was reviewed by, and letters of concurrence obtained from all three regions adjacent to Region 5: Region 3 (Arizona), Region 6 (Northern California) and Region 27 (Nevada). In accordance with the National Public Safety Plan, each region is responsible for planning its use of public safety radio frequency spectrum in the 821-824/866-869 MHz bands.2 The National Plan specifies special policies and procedures governing the Public Safety Pool.3 Regional plans must include an explanation of how the plan has been coordinated with adjacent regions. For modifications, the regional chair may recommend, in writing, changes to a regional plan, and the Commission will give public notice soliciting comment on any such proposals and issue appropriate orders upon review.4 The Region 5 Plan, which was originally adopted by the Commission in November 1989, has been modified several times within the last seventeen years.5 1 See Letter dated March 5, 2007, from Ron Wong, Chairperson, 800 MHz Regional Public Safety Planning Committee for Region 5, to Marlene H. Pursuant to Sections 1.415 and 1.419 of the Commission’s Rules, 47 C.F.R. §§ 1.415, 1.419, interested parties may file comments on the proposed Region 5 Plan Amendment on or before February 16, 2008 and reply comments on or before March 3, 2008. All comments and reply comments should reference General Docket 89-97.
