Comment Cycle Established for Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on
Services Eligible for E-Rate Funding

On July 31, 2008, the Commission released a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) seeking 
comment on the eligibility of certain services for funding under the schools and libraries universal service 
support mechanism, also known as the E-rate program.1  
The Commission set the comment and reply comment deadlines for this NPRM as 30 and 45 
days, respectively, after publication of the summary of the NPRM in the Federal Register.  On August 19, 
2008, the summary of the NPRM appeared in the Federal Register.2 Accordingly, comments will be due 
on September 18, 2008, and reply comments will be due on October 3, 2008.  For comment filing 
requirements, please consult the NPRM.3
