On June 3, 2008, Virgin Mobile USA, L.P. (Virgin Mobile) filed a petition for limited designation as an eligible telecommunications carrier in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.1 The petition requested that the Commission designate Virgin Mobile as an eligible telecommunications carrier for the limited purpose of participating in only the Lifeline universal service mechanism.2 2. On September 5, 2008, Virgin Mobile, in response to comments filed by the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Cable,3 submitted a request to withdraw its petition.4 We grant Virgin Mobile’s request to withdraw its petition without prejudice. 3. ACCORDINGLY, IT IS ORDERED that, pursuant to sections 1-4 and 214 of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended, 47 U.S.C. §§ 151-154, 214, and authority delegated under sections 0.91 and 0.291 of the Commission's rules, 47 C.F.R. §§ 0.91 and 0.291, Virgin Mobile USA, L.P.’s request to withdraw the petition for limited designation as an eligible telecommunications carrier in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts IS GRANTED. 4.
