Washington, D.C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov TTY: 1-888-835-5322 DA 11-1931 Release Date: November 22, 2011 WIRELINE COMPETITION BUREAU ANNOUNCES EFFECTIVE DATE FOR INTERNET- BASED TELECOMMUNICATIONS RELAY SERVICE NUMBERING RULES AND BEGINNING OF TRANSITION PERIOD WC Docket No. 10-191 CG Docket No. 03-123 WC Docket No. 05-196 On November 22, 2011, the Federal Register published a notice stating that that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has approved, for a period of three years, the information collection associated with the Commission’s Internet-Based Telecommunications Relay Service (iTRS) Numbering Report and Order (Order).1 OMB approved the information collection requirements on September 27, 2011.2 Pursuant to the Order, the Commission established a “one-year transition period to allow a reasonable period for consumer outreach and education to transition consumers from toll free numbers to local numbers.”3 That transition period “will expire one year after the effective date of [these] rules.”4 The transition period therefore begins today and will expire on November 21, 2012.
