Washington, D.C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov TTY: 1-888-835-5322 DA 12-15 Released: January 6, 2012 VIDEO PROGRAMMING ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE ANNOUNCEMENT OF FEBRUARY 9, 2012 MEETING Washington, D.C. – On December 7, 2010, Chairman Julius Genachowski announced the establishment of the Video Programming Accessibility Advisory Committee (VPAAC), an advisory committee required by the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 (CVAA).1 The next meeting of the VPAAC will be on February 9, 2012. The committee will meet from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at FCC Headquarters located at 445 12th Street, SW, Washington, DC 20554. The meeting will be open to the public and will be webcast live at http://www.fcc.gov/live. VPAAC MISSION The purpose of the VPAAC is to develop recommendations on closed captioning of Internet programming previously captioned on television;2 the compatibility between video programming delivered using Internet protocol and devices capable of receiving and displaying such programming in order to facilitate access to captioning, video description and emergency information;3 video description and accessible emergency information on television programming delivered using Internet protocols or digital broadcast television;4 accessible user interfaces on video programming devices;5 and accessible programming guides and menus. Open captioning and sign language interpreters will be provided. Other reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities are available upon request.
