Washington, D.C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov TTY: 1-888-835-5322 DA 12-246 Released: February 21, 2012 WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUREAU AND PUBLIC SAFETY AND HOMELAND SECURITY BUREAU PROVIDE SUPPLEMENTAL GUIDANCE FOR LICENSEES IN THE 150-174 MHz AND 421-512 MHz BANDS SEEKING WAIVERS OF THE JANUARY 1, 2013 NARROWBANDING DEADLINE This Public Notice provides supplemental guidance to licensees seeking waivers of the Federal Communications Commission’s January 1, 2013 deadline for private land mobile radio systems in the 150-174 MHz and 421-512 MHz (VHF/UHF) bands to migrate to narrowband (12.5 kHz or narrower) technology.1 Specifically, we recommend that licensees seeking waivers ensure that their submissions include, or are amended to include, a definitive list of the frequencies for which they are seeking a waiver, a list of frequencies that will be relinquished (if applicable, e.g., if the licensee intends to migrate to the 700 MHz or 800 MHz band and relinquish VHF/UHF spectrum), and representations from all licensees covered by the waiver request that they have committed to take any actions that form the basis for the waiver justification.
