Washington, D.C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov TTY: 1-888-835-5322 DA 12-505 Released: March 30, 2012 Notice of Effective Date of New IP Closed Captioning Rules MB Docket No. 11-154 On January 13, 2012, the Commission adopted the IP Closed Captioning Order, which adopted rules governing the closed captioning requirements for the owners, providers, and distributors of video programming delivered using Internet protocol (“IP”), as well as rules governing the closed captioning capabilities of certain apparatus on which consumers view video programming.1 Those rules become effective 30 days after publication of the order in the Federal Register, except for the rules that require approval by the Office of Management and Budget (“OMB”).2 The Federal Register published a summary of the IP Closed Captioning Order on March 30, 2012.3 Accordingly, the rules adopted in the IP Closed Captioning Order will take effect on April 30, 2012, except for the rules that require OMB approval. The information collection requirements contained in the rules that require OMB approval are subject to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 (PRA), Public Law No. 104-13. The information collection is being submitted to OMB for review under 47 U.S.C. § 3507(d), and will not take effect until it is approved by OMB.
