Washington, D.C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov TTY: 1-888-835-5322 DA 13-1512 Released: July 2, 2013 Notice of Effective Date of IP Closed Captioning Order on Reconsideration and Announcement of Comment and Reply Comment Deadlines for Related Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking MB Docket No. 11-154 FNPRM Comment Deadline: September 3, 2013 FNPRM Reply Comment Deadline: September 30, 2013 On June 14, 2013, the Commission released the IP Closed Captioning Order on Reconsideration and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, which addressed three petitions for reconsideration of the Report and Order in the proceeding. 1 The rules adopted in the Order on Reconsideration become effective 30 days after publication of the order in the Federal Register. 2 The Federal Register published a summary of the final rules adopted in the IP Closed Captioning Order on Reconsideration on July 2, 2013. 3 Accordingly, the rules adopted in the IP Closed Captioning Order on Reconsideration will take effect on August 1, 2013. In the Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (“FNPRM”) adopted with the Order on Reconsideration, the Commission seeks comment on apparatus closed captioning synchronization requirements, and on closed captioning requirements for DVD and Blu-ray players. The Commission set deadlines for filing comments and reply comments at 60 and 90 days, respectively, after publication of the FNPRM in the Federal Register. 4 The summary of the FNPRM was published in the Federal Register on July 2, 2013. 5 Thus, comments must be submitted no later than September 3, 2013.
