Washington, D.C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov TTY: 1-888-835-5322 DA 13-534 Released: March 21, 2013 THE CONSUMER AND GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS BUREAU ACCEPTS AMERICAN NETWORK, INC.’S (ANI) RELINQUISHMENT OF AUTHORITY TO PROVIDE ITRS SERVICES CG DOCKET NO. 03-123 By the Acting Chief, Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau: By this Notice, the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau (CGB) of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) hereby accepts the relinquishment of American Network, Inc.’s (ANI) authority to provide of Internet-based telecommunications relay services (TRS) 1 and eligibility for compensation from the Interstate TRS Fund (Fund).2 On January 7, 2009, CGB granted ANI a 5-year certification as a provider of Internet Protocol relay service (IP Relay), video relay service (VRS) and Internet Protocol captioned telephone service (IP CTS).3 On March 18, 2013, ANI relinquished its authority to provide Internet-based TRS.4 ANI is thus no longer certified by the Commission to provide IP Relay, VRS and IP CTS, nor is it permitted to receive compensation from the Fund for the provision of those services. 1 TRS is defined as “telephone transmission services that provide the ability for an individual who is deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, or who has a speech disability to engage in communication by wire or radio with one or more individuals, in a manner that is functionally equivalent to the ability of a hearing individual who does not have a speech disability to communicate using voice communication services by wire or radio.” 47 U.S.C. § 225(a)(3). 2 The Fund compensates eligible providers of IP Relay, VRS, and other forms of TRS for their reasonable actual costs of providing service. See 47 C.F.R. § 64.604(c)(5)(iii). Providers of Internet-based TRS are required to obtain certification from the FCC to provide such services and receive compensation from the Fund.
