Washington, D.C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 TTY 202 / 418-2555 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov ftp.fcc.gov DA 13-721 April 15, 2013 DEADLINES ESTABLISHED FOR FILING COMMENTS AND REPLY COMMENTS ON IMPROVING RELIABILITY OF THE NATION’S 9-1-1 EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE WAKE OF THE JUNE 2012 DERECHO PS Docket No. 13-75, PS Docket No. 11-60 Comments Due: May 13, 2013 Reply Comments Due: May 28, 2013 On March 20, 2013, the Federal Communications Commission released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking soliciting comment on approaches to improve the reliability and resiliency of the communications infrastructure necessary to ensure continued availability of the Nation's 9-1-1 emergency communications system, particularly during times of major disaster.1 The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking set deadlines for filing comments and reply comments at 30 and 45 days, respectively, after publication of a summary of the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Federal Register. On April 12, 2013, a summary of the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was published in the Federal Register.2 Accordingly, comments must be filed on or before May 13, 2013, and reply comments must be filed on or before May 28, 2013. Commenters should follow the filing instructions in the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and in the Federal Register summary.3 The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking is available on the Commission’s website.4 Commenters are reminded that the Commission has designated this as a “permit-but-disclose” proceeding in accordance with the Commission’s ex parte rules.5 Persons making ex parte presentations must file a copy of any written presentation or a memorandum summarizing any oral presentation within two business days after the presentation. If the presentation consisted in whole or in part of the presentation of data or arguments already reflected in the presenter’s written comments, memoranda or other filings in the proceeding, the presenter may provide citations to such data or arguments in his or her prior comments, memoranda, or other filings (specifying the relevant page and/or paragraph numbers where such data or arguments can be found) in lieu of summarizing them in the memorandum. Documents shown or given to Commission staff during ex parte meetings are deemed to be written ex parte presentations and must be filed consistent with § 1.1206(b) of the Commission’s rules. Written ex parte presentations and memoranda summarizing oral ex parte presentations, and all attachments thereto, must be filed through the electronic comment filing system, and must be filed in their native format (e.g., .doc, .xml, .ppt, searchable .pdf).
