Federal Communications Commission 445 12th St., S.W. Washington, D.C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov TTY: 1-888-835-5322 PUBLIC NOTICE DA 14-1182 Released: August 14, 2014 Deadline Extended for Comment on SSR Communications, Inc.’s Petition for Rulemaking to Amend the Commission’s Rules Governing FM Broadcast Stations RM 11727 Extended Comment Deadline: September 18, 2014 Extended Reply Comment Deadline: October 3, 2014 1. By this Public Notice, the Media Bureau extends the deadline for filing comments and reply comments in the above-captioned proceeding. On January 22, 2013, SSR Communications, Inc. (“SSR”) filed a Petition for Rulemaking to create a new Zone II FM broadcast station class, or “C4” allocation, and amend certain technical rules for the FM broadcast service.1 The Commission released a public notice establishing a 30- day deadline for filing statements supporting or opposing the SSR Petition, with statements due August 18, 2014.2 On July 23, 2014, REC Networks (“REC”) requested an extension of this deadline based on its attendance at the “Grassroots Radio Conference” and resultant conflict with the deadline date.3 REC explained that, as the proceeding could substantially impact many of the LPFM and community-based noncommercial FM radio service stakeholders attending this Conference, an extension of the deadline would facilitate the development of “a complete record…[and] would be in the best interest of this proceeding and therefore, in the public interest.”4 We grant REC’s extension request. 2. As set forth in Section 1.46(a) of the Commission’s Rules,5 the Commission’s policy is that extensions of time shall not be routinely granted. Given the broad scope of the SSR Petition and the pending comment deadline, we believe that granting the REC extension request would facilitate development of a full record. Accordingly, we extend the deadline for filing statements in support of or in opposition to the SSR Petition by one month, until September 18, 2014. We also extend the deadline for filing replies to such statements until October 3, 2014. 3.
