PUBLIC NOTICE Federal Communications Commission 445 12 th St., S.W. Washington, D.C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov TTY: 1-888-835-5322 DA 14-847 Released: June 19, 2014 FCC EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR COMMENT ON THE ACCESSIBILITY OF COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE 2014 BIENNIAL REPORT REQUIRED BY THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY COMMUNICATIONS AND VIDEO ACCESSIBILITY ACT CG Docket No. 10-213 Comment Date: July 15, 2014 Washington, D.C. By this Public Notice, the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau (Bureau) of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission) extends the filing deadline for comments on the accessibility of communication technologies for the 2014 biennial report to Congress, required by the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA), until July 15, 2014. On June 17, 2014, the Bureau released a Public Notice (June 17 th Public Notice) establishing a pleading cycle for comments on the state of accessibility of communications technologies and related issues to assist the Bureau in the preparation of a 2014 biennial report to Congress required by the CVAA. In order to obtain an informed record in time for the delivery of the report to Congress by October 8, 2014, the June 17 th Public Notice sought public comment by July 3, 2014. The Commission has learned that several potential commenters may be unable to provide comments by the original deadline as a result of competing proceedings, summer conferences and other scheduling conflicts. Although the Commission’s policy is that extensions of time for filing comments shall not be routinely granted, we find that granting a brief extension of the comment period in this case will serve the public interest by allowing all parties to gather the information needed to prepare and submit their comments to the Commission. We expect that this will facilitate the development of a more complete record to inform the 2014 biennial report. Therefore, by this Order, the Bureau sua sponte extends the filing deadline for comments in this proceeding until July 15, 2014, which is four weeks from the date of the release of the June 17 th Public Notice.
