The various broadband health events and activities will be hosted and/or co-sponsored by Cleveland Clinic, Allied Media Projects, the Global Center for Health Innovation, Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Innovation Center, Henry Ford Innovation Institute, TechTown Detroit, and Wayne State University. The scheduled fora, meetings and site visits are part of the Task Force’s “Beyond the Beltway Series” on promoting the transformative power of broadband technologies and next-generation services to improve access to health care services regardless of geography, time, distance, or socio-economic factors. As demonstrated in prior Task Force Beyond the Beltway events, broadband connectivity can serve as the backbone of a new, more effective and efficient health and care ecosystem. Ohio and Michigan are key focus states in this context, with significant health disparities and connectivity gaps. According to the 2014 Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, 20% of households in Ohio and Michigan report no broadband connection at home. In the urban centers of Cleveland and Detroit, the percentage of households without high speed Internet connectivity increases to 34% and 38%, respectively. Detailed registration and event information, as well as a tentative trip agenda, are provided below. Additional information for the Cleveland activities is available online at: https://www.fcc.gov/events/connect2healthfcc-beyond-beltway-series-ohio.
