Washington, D.C. 20554 News Media Information 202 / 418-0500 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov TTY: 1-888-835-5322 DA 15-699 June 15, 2015 FCC ANNOUNCES THE RECHARTER, CHAIR, MEMBERSHIP, AND FIRST MEETING OF THE COMMUNICATIONS SECURITY, RELIABILITY, AND INTEROPERABILITY COUNCIL This Public Notice serves as notice that, consistent with the Federal Advisory Committee Act,1 Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission) Chairman Thomas Wheeler has rechartered the Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council (CSRIC or Council) and appointed its Chair and members. CSRIC V will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, beginning at 1:00 p.m., in the Commission Meeting Room at FCC Headquarters, located at 445 12th Street, SW, Room TW-C305, Washington, DC 20554. Notice of this meeting was published in the Federal Register on May 20, 2015.2 On March 19, 2015, pursuant to the Federal Advisory Committee Act, the Commission renewed the CSRIC charter for a period of two years, through March 18, 2017.3 Under the charter, the duties of CSRIC may include: • Developing and recommending best practices, activities, and actions, if any, the FCC should take to promote reliable communications services, including 911, Enhanced 911, and Next Generation 911 service. • Identifying and recommending to the FCC best practices, activities, and actions, if any, the FCC should take to make communications networks, including broadband networks and Voice over Internet Protocol systems, more secure and resilient. • Leveraging existing alerting platforms, developing recommendations for the FCC to enhance the utility of timely and accurate emergency alerts and warnings. • Developing and providing to the Commission recommendations to remove barriers and encourage sharing of cybersecurity information between companies in the communications sector. This work should leverage and ultimately compliment the work of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will be doing to establish Information Sharing and Analysis Organization standards. 1 5 U.S.C. Chairman Wheeler has designated John Schanz, Executive Vice President and Chief Network Officer for Comcast Cable, as Chair of the Council.
