DA 18-968 Released September 19, 2018 PUBLIC SAFETY & HOMELAND SECURITY BUREAU ANNOUNCES PARTIAL DEACTIVATION OF THE DISASTER INFORMATION REPORTING SYSTEM FOR HURRICANE FLORENCE DIRS deactivated for all counties in Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia DIRS remains active in North Carolina At the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has deactivated its Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS) DIRS is a voluntary, web-based system that communications providers, including wireless, wireline, broadcast, cable and Voice over Internet Protocol providers, can use to report communications infrastructure status and situational awareness information during times of crisis. for the following areas affected by Hurricane Florence: GEORGIA: Appling, Bacon, Bryan, Bulloch, Burke, Candler, Chatham, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Liberty, Long, Mcintosh, Montgomery, Screven, Tattnall, Toombs, Treutlen, Wayne SOUTH CAROLINA: Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Colleton, Darlington, Dillon, Dorchester, Florence, Georgetown, Hampton, Horry, Jasper, Kershaw, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, Orangeburg, Richland, Sumter, Williamsburg VIRGINIA: Chesapeake City, Suffolk City, Virginia Beach City Communications providers do not need to provide any additional reporting in DIRS for these areas with respect to Hurricane Florence. The FCC will, however, continue to monitor the status of communications services and work with providers and government partners in these areas as needed to support remaining restoration efforts. DIRS remains activated in the following areas: NORTH CAROLINA: Anson, Beaufort, Bertie, Bladen, Brunswick, Camden, Carteret, Chatham, Chowan, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Currituck, Dare, Duplin, Edgecombe, Franklin, Gates, Greene, Halifax, Harnett, Hertford, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lee, Lenoir, Martin, Moore, Nash, New Hanover, Northampton, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pender, Perquimans, Pitt, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Tyrrell, Wake, Washington, Wayne, Wilson The FCC appreciates the cooperation of all the communications providers that have voluntarily submitted data to DIRS in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. In disaster situations, information on the operational status of communications services provides critical situational awareness and supports effective emergency response and restoration efforts. The FCC expects to continue to publish daily communications status reports while DIRS remains active for any area in connection with Hurricane Florence.
