PUBLIC SAFETY AND HOMELAND SECURITY BUREAU ANNOUNCES PUBLICATION OF RESILIENT NETWORKS REPORT AND ORDER AND COMMENT AND REPLY COMMENT DATES FOR THE FURTHER NOTICE OF PROPOSED RULEMAKING

	On June 27, 2022, the Federal Communications Commission (Commission) adopted a Report and Order (Report and Order) designed to improve the reliability and resiliency of commercial wireless networks by implementing a new “Mandatory Disaster Response Initiative” (MDRI).     
In an associated Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (FNPRM), the Commission seeks comment on whether reports submitted pursuant to the MDRI would benefit from standardization, and what it should entail.  The FNPRM set deadlines for filing comments and reply comments at 30 and 60 days, respectively, after publication of a summary of the FNPRM in the Federal Register. Resilient Networks; Amendments to Part 4 of the Commission’s Rules Concerning Disruptions to Communications; New Part 4 of the Commission’s Rules Concerning Disruptions to Communications, PS Docket No. 21-346 and 15-80; ET Docket No. 04-25, Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, FCC 22-50 (June 27, 2022) (Resilient Networks).  

On September 30, 2022, the Office of the Federal Register published a summary of the Order and FNPRM. Federal Communications Commission, Final Rule, 87 Fed. Reg. 59329 (Sept. 30, 2022); Federal Communications Commission, Proposed Rule, 87 Fed. Reg. 59379 (Sept. 30, 2022).  
  Accordingly, FNPRM comments must be filed on or before October 31, 2022 and reply comments must be filed on or before November 29, 2022.  The FNPRM contains the comment filing instructions. Resilient Networks at para. 54.
