Federal Communications Commission "FCC/DA XX-XXX" DA 22-681 Released: June 28, 2022 PUBLIC SAFETY AND HOMELAND SECURITY BUREAU ANNOUNCES COMMENT AND REPLY COMMENT DATES FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ELECTRONIC FILING OF CALEA SYSTEM SECURITY AND INTEGRITY PLANS PS Docket No. 22-217 Comments Due: July 22, 2022 Reply Comments Due: August 8, 2022 On June 1, 2022, the Public Safety Homeland Security Bureau (the Bureau) announced the upcoming launch of the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) Electronic Filing System (CEFS). Public Safety Homeland Security Bureau Provides Information on Implementation of Voluntary Electronic Filing of CALEA System Security and Integrity Plans and Seeks Comment on Mandatory Electronic Filing, Public Notice, DA 22-592 (PSHSB rel. June 1, 2022) (CEFS Announcement Public Notice). The CEFS Announcement Public Notice proposes to allow covered entities to file System Security and Integrity Policies and Procedures (SSI Plans) confidentially and securely online, eliminating the need for paper filing. See CEFS Announcement Public Notice at p. 1. The Bureau seeks comment on the proposal that there be mandatory electronic filing of SSI Plans instead of paper filings for entities that are required to update their SSI Plans or file new SSI Plans under the Commission’s rules, and that the timing of this requirement start six months after CEFS is made available for voluntary filing. See id. The CEFS Announcement Public Notice set deadlines for filing comments and reply comments at 30 and 45 days, respectively, after publication of a summary of the CEFS Announcement Public Notice in the Federal Register. See id. On June 22, 2022, the Office of the Federal Register published a summary of the Notice, including the associated comment and reply comment dates. Accordingly, comments must be filed on or before July 22, 2022, and reply comments must be filed on or before August 8, 2022.
