Washington, D.C. 20554 News media information 202 / 418-0500 Fax-On-Demand 202/418-2830 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov ftp.fcc.gov DA 96-1828 Released: November 5, 1996 Wireless Telecommunications Bureau Posts Comments to the Notice of Inquiry on Access to Telecommunications Services and Equipment for the Disabled on the Internet On September 19, 1996, the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau released a Notice of Inquiry (NOI) regarding Section 255 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, which provides that telecommunications service providers and telecommunications equipment manufacturers must make their services and equipment accessible to those with disabilities, if readily achievable. In seeking comment on a number of issues, the Bureau asked interested parties to file comments on or before October 28, 1996, and reply comments on or before November 27, 1996. The Bureau also stated that it would post those comments received on diskette (in addition to the officially filed paper copies with Secretary of the Commission), on the Bureau's World Wide Web site on the Internet. The Bureau has begun posting these comments and the address for the site is http://www.fcc.gov/wtb96-198comments.html. Links to the Internet site are also established on the Commission, Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, and the Disabilities Task Force home pages. The Bureau will continue to accept diskettes from those commenters who have already filed with the Secretary of the Commission paper copies of their comments/reply comments on a timely basis.
