Federal Communications Commission Washington. D.C. 20554 DA 96-30 January 17. 1996 C. R. Carrington Director-- Federal Regulatory Matters NYNEX Government Affairs 13001 Street. NW, Suite 400 Washington. D.C. 20005 Dear Mr. Carrington: This letter is in reference to the letter submitted on behalf of the NYNEX Corporation requesting that the Commission postpone the direct broadcast satellite auction scheduled for January 24, 1996. until February 14, 1996. You state that NYNEX's evaluation of participation in the auction has been hampered by uncertainty created by telecommunications reform legislation, government shutdowns, and the severe weather of last week. As Michele Farquhar, Chief of the Wireles* Telecommunications -Bureau, indicated to you by telephone today. NYNEX has not shown that any of these factors has prevented it from making a determination as to whether or not to take part in the DBS auction. In addition, the public interest will be served by proceeding as expeditiously as possible with the auction. Therefore. NYNEX's request is hereby DENIED. This action is taken pursuant to delegated authority under Section 0.331 of the Commission's Rules. Sincerely, Kathleen O'Brien Ham Chief, Auction Division Wireless Telecommunications Bureau 22116
