The Commission’s theme will be “Senior Sense: Knowledge is Power.” During National Consumer Protection Week government agencies and organizations around the nation highlight consumer protection and education efforts. The Commission’s Consumer Information Bureau (CIB) has organized three events during the week to meet with seniors, listen to their concerns and discuss telecom issues of particular interest to them. These issues include: implementation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, procedures for filing a complaint, slamming and telemarketing rules, video description and closed captioning. Roderick K. Porter, chief of the CIB, said, “All our efforts at the FCC, this week and every week, have the ultimate goal of serving the public interest – consumers’ interests. Everyone here is keenly aware of this responsibility and we all work to ensure that the American consumer’s interests are always promoted and protected.
