VIRGIN ISLANDS Washington, D. C. – Today the Federal Communications Commission has ordered a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge to determine whether certain licenses held by Family Broadcasting, Inc. relating to the operation of stations WSTX( AM) and WSTX- FM in Christiansted, U. S. Virgin Islands, should be revoked. The hearing will concern whether Family Broadcasting operated the stations in violation of the terms of its licenses during the period from 1997 to 2000. The conduct at issue involves Family Broadcasting operating the stations with unauthorized antennas and at improper power levels, as well as its operation of WSTX- FM’s transmitter from an unauthorized transmitter site. Further, the hearing will determine whether the company misrepresented facts and/ or lacked candor in certain statements submitted to the Commission regarding the relocation of WSTX-FM’s transmitter from its authorized site. Should the ALJ determine that the company has violated the Commission’s rules, the ALJ will proceed to decide whether the company is qualified to remain a Commission licensee in light of the nature and extent of the violations. Family Broadcasting will have the opportunity to appeal to the Commission from any adverse decision by the ALJ. The date of the hearing has yet to be determined, and will be set in a forthcoming order from the ALJ assigned to the case.
