FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: David Fiske May 10, 2001 (202) 418- 0513 FCC CHAIRMAN MICHAEL POWELL ANNOUNCES WASHINGTON ATTORNEY KENNETH FERREE TO BE CHIEF OF FCC CABLE SERVICES BUREAU FCC Chairman Michael Powell today announced that W. Kenneth Ferree, an attorney in Washington, D. C., will be the new Chief of the Cable Services Bureau, effective May 21, 2001. Ferree is currently a partner in the Washington D. C. law firm, Goldberg, Godles, Wiener & Wright and has had extensive experience in dealing with telecommunications and information technology issues. For the past seven years, he has been an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center in the areas of telecommunications law and regulation and professional responsibility. Ferree replaces current Cable Services Bureau Chief Deborah Lathen who yesterday announced her resignation, effective May 18, 2001. FCC Chairman Michael Powell said, “I am extremely delighted that someone with the depth of understanding of telecommunications issues as Ken Ferree is willing to join our team at the FCC. In his professional career, he has had remarkable breadth of experience with the many issues and industries that will be facing the Cable Services Bureau and the Commission. He will be a valuable asset at the FCC as we grapple with complex issues, such as convergence, digital conversion, open access and many others, in the months and years ahead.” Ferree is a graduate of Dartmouth College, with a B. A. in English, San Jose State University, where he earned an M. B. A., and the Georgetown University Law Center, where he received a J. D. summa cum laude. Prior to commencing law school, Ferree had experience as a financial analyst. Ferree served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Harry T. Edwards, Chief Judge of the U. S. Court of Appeals for the D. C. Circuit. He was an Associate in the Communications Group of the Washington law firm, Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering, before joining his current law firm. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and has been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the U. S. Courts of Appeals for the D.
