FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS MEDIA CONTACT: May 14, 2001 Maureen Peratino at 202- 418- 0506 LINDA BLAIR NAMED ASSOCIATE CHIEF, ENFORCEMENT BUREAU; LISA FOWLKES NAMED ASSISTANT CHIEF, ENFORCEMENT BUREAU Washington, DC -- Linda Blair has been named Associate Chief of the Commission’s Enforcement Bureau and Lisa Fowlkes appointed Assistant Bureau Chief. Ms. Blair previously served as Chief of the Mass Media Bureau’s Audio Services Division. She joined the Commission in June 1988, serving first in the Mass Media Bureau’s Policy and Rules Division and then in the former Private Radio Bureau and the Office of General Counsel. She returned to the Mass Media Bureau in 1993 as Assistant Chief of the Audio Services Division and became Chief of that Division in October 1995. Prior to joining the Commission, Ms. Blair was an associate at Ginsburg, Feldman, and Bress. She received a B. A. from the College of William and Mary and a J. D. from American University’s Washington College of Law. Since January 2000, Ms. Fowlkes has been Legal Advisor to the Chief of the Enforcement Bureau on mass media and other non- common carrier- related enforcement issues. Prior to joining the Enforcement Bureau, Ms. Fowlkes practiced communications law at the Washington, D. C. law firm of Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson & Hand, where she specialized primarily on broadcast, cable and wireless matters. Prior to that, Ms. Fowlkes held a number of positions at the FCC including, Deputy Chief of the Public Safety & Private Wireless Division in the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, Senior Attorney in the Office of General Counsel’s Administrative Law Division, Supervisory Attorney in the Consumer Protection and Competition Division of the Cable Services Bureau, and Attorney- Advisor in the Enforcement Division of the Mass Media Bureau. Ms. Fowlkes earned a J. D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Commenting on the apppointments, Enforcement Bureau Chief David H. Solomon said, “Linda Blair is a superb manager and a recognized expert in broadcast law. I am extremely pleased that she has agreed to join the Enforcement Bureau. Lisa Fowlkes has played a major role in the success of the Bureau during its first year and a half.
