Kenneth Ferree, chief of the Cable Services Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission, announced today that Sarah Whitesell, a legal advisor to FCC Commissioner Gloria Tristani, will become the new Associate Chief of the Cable Services Bureau, effective June 21, 2001. Whitesell brings a broad range of telecommunications experience to the Cable Services Bureau. For the past two years, she has been the legal advisor on common carrier issues for Commissioner Tristani. Whitesell also served as an advisor in the Telecommunications Division of the International Bureau and in the Policy Division of the Common Carrier Bureau. Other government work includes the U. S. Department of Justice, where Whitesell was an attorney on the Telecommunications Task Force of the Antitrust Division. CSB Chief Ferree said, “Sarah has gained a reputation within the FCC as a knowledgeable attorney and trusted advisor. Her telecommunications expertise will be invaluable as we confront complex convergence issues and I look forward to working with her.” Prior to joining the FCC, Whitesell was an associate at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering. She has taught telecommunications law as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center and legal writing as an adjunct professor at George Washington University Law School. Whitesell was a law clerk to the Honorable Jane R. Roth, U. S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She received her law degree from the Yale Law School and her undergraduate degree from Davidson College. - FCC - 1
