FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEWS MEDIA CONTACT June 4, 2001 Michelle Russo (202) 418- 2358 FCC CABLE CHIEF ANNOUNCES STAFF CHANGES Clint Odom Leaves FCC, Thomas Horan Replaces Odom Washington, DC— Kenneth Ferree, chief of the Cable Services Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission, announced today that Clint Odom departed the FCC on June 1. Mr. Odom left his post as Senior Legal Advisor for the Cable Services Bureau. Thomas Horan, an attorney in the Consumer Protection and Competition Division, assumed the role of Senior Legal Advisor on June 4. Chief Ferree said, “Clint has been a valuable asset during his tenure at the FCC and I am confident that his expertise will serve him well in the private sector. I wish him well in his new adventure.” Chief Ferree added, “Tom Horan has gained considerable expertise in a variety of areas relating to cable regulation, and he has the background and experience to make a significant contribution as we tackle the increasingly complex policy issues that lie ahead. I look forward to working with him in this new role.” Mr. Odom is a four- year veteran of the Federal Communications Commission, having served as the principal legal advisor to former FCC Chairman William E. Kennard on all matters relating to radio spectrum policy, including mobile and fixed wireless, satellite, unlicensed spectrum, and wireless Internet. In the Cable Services Bureau, Mr. Odom served as a principal legal advisor to the Bureau Chief on mass media, mergers, digital television, and broadband Internet policy. Mr. Horan joined the FCC in 1996 as an attorney in the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau where he specialized in Auctions and Industry Analysis. In the Cable Services Bureau, Horan has worked on evaluating the impact of applying existing cable regulations to new Internet broadband services; developing FCC policy regarding cable carriage of digital over- the- air television signals and drafting rules to institute procedures to allow retail sale of cable set- top boxes. - FCC - 1
