 MARLENE  H.  DORTCH  NAMED  ACTING  DIRECTOR,  OFFICE  OF  COMMUNICATIONS  BUSINESS  OPPORTUNITIES 


 Washington,  DC  --  Marlene  H.  Dortch  has  been  named  Acting  Director  of  the 
 Office  of  Communications  Business  Opportunities  (OCBO),  effective  June  11,  2001. 
 OCBO  works  to  promote  opportunities  for  ownership  and  employment  in  the  tele-communications 
 and  broadcasting  industries  for  small  businesses.  In  her  new  position, 
 Dortch  will  have  primary  responsibility  for  overseeing  the  Commission’s  compliance 
 with  the  requirements  of  the  Regulatory  Flexibility  Act  and  the  Small  Business 
 Administration  size  standard  rules  issued  pursuant  to  the  Small  Business  Act. 


 Dortch  served  as  Chief  of  the  Equal  Employment  Opportunity  Staff  in  the 
 Commission's  Mass  Media  Bureau  since  March  2000. 


 Prior  to  that  she  was  an  attorney-  advisor  in  the  Television  Branch  of  the  Bureau's 
 Video  Services  Division.  In  that  position,  Dortch  focused  primarily  on  broadcast 
 transactions  and  issues  related  to  the  Commission's  multiple  ownership  rules.  She  also 
 worked  on  ITFS  issues  in  the  Video  Services  Division. 


 She  holds  a  J.  D.  degree  from  The  Ohio  State  University  College  of  Law  and  an 
 A.  B.  from  Georgetown  University. 


 Dortch  lives  in  Maryland  with  her  husband,  Llewellyn.
