C. – The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) today announced the appointment of new federal members to the Federal- State Joint Board on Separations (Separations Joint Board). FCC Commissioners Kevin Martin and Michael Copps have been appointed to serve as federal representatives on the Separations Joint Board. They fill the vacancies created by the departure of former FCC Chairman William Kennard and Commissioner Susan Ness. Commissioner Martin will serve as Federal Chair of the Separations Joint Board. FCC Chairman Michael Powell praised the new Joint Board members. “Commissioners Martin and Copps will be valuable additions and I am pleased that they have accepted appointments to the Separations Joint Board. Their input will be instrumental as the Separations Joint Board tackles the many important issues on its plate.” The Separations Joint Board was created by the FCC to advise the Commission on matters related to separations, or the allocation of costs between the federal and state jurisdictions. The Joint Board consists of seven members: three FCC commissioners and four state commissioners. The existing members of the Joint Board are Michael Powell, FCC Chairman; Thomas Welch, Commissioner of the Maine Public Utilities Commission; Diane Munns, Commissioner of the Iowa Utilities Board; Joan Smith, Commissioner of the Oregon Public Utility Commission; and, Joseph Mettner, Commissioner of the Wisconsin Public Service Commission.
