Copps today announced that Paul Margie will join the Commissioner’s staff as Spectrum and International Legal Advisor effective August 20, 2001. Mr. Margie presently serves as Senior Commerce Counsel for Senator John D. Rockefeller IV (D- WV). His responsibilities include coordinating policies and staff on matters related to the Senate Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee. Mr. Margie is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University, where he teaches a course entitled Law in Cyberspace. He previously served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at George Washington University. Prior to joining Senator Rockefeller’s staff, Mr. Margie was an attorney with the Washington D. C. law firm of Wiley, Rein & Fielding, where he was a member of the communications and technology law practice groups. Mr. Margie graduated from the University of Chicago Law School with honors, where he was the Editor- in- Chief of the University of Chicago Legal Forum. Mr. Margie spent a year at Oxford University’s Lady Margaret Hall studying English literature in the Associate Students Program, and received his Bachelor of Arts from Haverford College with honors. He has written articles on subjects such as universal service, e- commerce, encryption, and the Telecommunications Act of 1996. In announcing Margie’s appointment, Commissioner Copps said, “I am pleased that Paul has agreed to continue in public service by joining my staff at the FCC. With his wealth of experience, I am confident that he will make an enormous contribution to my office and to the Commission as we address the complex challenges ahead.” “Paul will be my principal advisor on all spectrum management and international issues. Over the next few weeks, I plan to announce further permanent staff in an office structure that takes into account the convergence of industries, convergence of services, and convergence of markets.
