FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NEWS MEDIA CONTACT: August 8, 2001 Maureen Peratino at 202- 418- 0506 LAUREN MAXIM VAN WAZER NAMED SPECIAL COUNSEL TO CHIEF, OFFICE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY Washington, DC – Lauren Maxim Van Wazer has been named Special Counsel to the Chief of the Office of Engineering and Technology, effective August 20, 2001. Since June, Ms. Van Wazer has served in the office of FCC Commissioner Michael J. Copps as an interim legal advisor for wireless and international issues. Commissioner Copps said, “I am delighted at Lauren’s promotion, recognizing as it does the combination of keen intelligence, sound judgment, great enthusiasm and obvious integrity that she brings to everything she does. I will always be grateful to her for the outstanding support she has given me as I begin my service at the Commission. We are fortunate to have Lauren in public service.” She joined the FCC in 1999 as a senior staff attorney in the Commercial Wireless Division of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau. Prior to that, Ms. Van Wazer worked as an associate at the law firm of Arnold & Porter and as a law clerk to the Honorable Ralph B. Guy, Jr., of the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She also held several management positions in the Network Services department of AT& T. Ms. Van Wazer received her J. D., magna cum laude, from the Georgetown University Law Center, where she was an editor of the Georgetown Law Journal and a member of the Order of the Coif. She also received a B. S. E. in Systems Science Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania’s Moore School of Electrical Engineering. - FCC - 1
