FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NEWS MEDIA CONTACT: August 27, 2001 Adam Krinsky at (202) 418- 2300 COMMISSIONER GLORIA TRISTANI TO DEPART THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2001 Washington, DC -- FCC Commissioner Gloria Tristani announced today that she will leave the Federal Communications Commission on September 7, 2001. “It has been a great honor to serve as a member of the FCC during this period. I am proud to have advocated for the E- rate and better access to telecommunications for all Americans. After nearly four years, however, I believe it is time for me to move on. I plan to return home to New Mexico in the near future,” Tristani said. Tristani, a Democrat, was appointed by President Clinton and took office on November 3, 1997. Previously, she had been elected to the New Mexico State Corporation Commission (SCC) in 1994 and served as SCC Chairman in 1996. “I would like to thank my past and present colleagues and the staff at the agency for their commit ment to public service and their dedicat ion to this inst itution.
